Housemaid murdered in Lilongwe’s Area 18B: Hanged in bedroom
A maid was murdered and hanged in her mistress’s bedroom in Area 18 B on Tuesday in Lilongwe.
Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer, Ramsy Mushani confirmed the death and identified the deceased as Filesi Chimombo, 36, from Malanga village, Traditional Authority Nsomba in Blantyre district.
“The woman was staying with her mistress and a 10 year old boy. On Tuesday as usual the boy went for his part time lessons around 12.00 pm and he left the maid at home, but when he came back around 4 o’clock he found her hanging in the bedroom and he alerted neighbuors,” Mushani explained.
He added that the woman was working as a maid at Christina Mchiswe’s house and at the time of the incident the mistress was at work.
According to Mushani, postmortem done at Kamuzu Central Hospital on Wednesday showed that the woman died of manual strangulation of the neck.
“After the postmortem was conducted that was when it was established that the woman was murdered and hanged,” Mushani said.
The reason for the woman’s murder is yet to be established, but police are still investigating on the issue, so far no arrests have been made.
