‘I had steamy sex with MP while HIV, Prophet Bushiri cured me with prayer’

In a case where Member of Parliament Jimmy Bauleni Mannah sued the ‘man of God’  Propher Shepherd Bushiri for defamation, court documents filled by the legislature’s former girlfriend has accused him of being a womanizer and perpetrator of gender-based violence.

Manna is suing the self-styled prophet Bushiri claiming undisclosed millions for defamation after he said on national television that the lawmaker had impregnated a woman who later aborted the two month’s pregnancy.

The woman, Taonga Jamali, was employed by Bushiri as his secretary and she is named first defendant in the lawsuit.

In a 15 page sworn-affidavit containing evidence of Jamali, she claimed of having unprotected sex with Manna several times when she was HIV positive. The girl claimed she got pregnant when she was 18 at secondary school in Form 3.

“We used to have sexual intercourse every week,” Jamali said in her sworn statement.

She also claimed that her HIV positive status prompted her to terminate the pregnancy.

But claimed that after special prayers from Prophet Bushiri of the Enlightened Christian Gathering,  she got cured from the HIV.

“I met the plaintiff in 2008 in Area 18 where I used to stay with my aunt. We got to know each other closely and started a sexual relationship. We were never practicing safe-sex at all, never used any protection like condoms,” said the girl in her affidavit.

She disclosed that they had sex in different places including Manna’s matrimonial home in Area 23 when his wife was either at work or visiting parents.

At some occasion they had been romping at Mlambe Lodge in Area 36.

Bushiri is named as a second defendant, while Shepherd Bushiri Ministries are third defendant; ECG Church and the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation are the fourth and fifth defendants respectively.

Manna, who represents Dowa East, through his lawyers claims that the broadcast of the alleged prophecy by Bushiri on 17th July 2012 was a personal vendetta after Jamali had warned him that she would deal with him after she featured in one of his music videos.

The recording of the programme which he claims will be played in court quotes Bushiri claiming that he had mentioned the parliamentarian’s stage name of Dr. Cloud to prove to him that he was a Man of God, accusing the MP of not believing in his powers.

Observers say the case could determine the future of Bushiri who was gained notoriety over his claims to have prophetic powers.

Zodiak Broadcasting Corporation claimed Bushiri, who is called Major Prophet, lied to his congregation at Masintha ground when he claimed a reporter from the station was at his prayer rally after being queried about finances.

The case  is being heard at Lilongwe High Court and presided by Justice Ivy Kamanga under Civil Cause number 333 of 2012.
