ICCB wins TNM cricket cup

Indian Country Club B (ICCB) team emerged the winner of Telecom Networks Malawi (TNM)  Central Region 20/20 Cup after seeing off Alendo team 26 runs.

This means ICCB, which had 202 runs against Alendo’s 176 has qualified for the national finals which will be competed by the regional champions.

Captains for the champions Prashant Kunder said they are excited to be victors because their goal is to win the national finals.

“This is just a step towards bigger goals, next is to be national champions and then we are considering of crossing the borders,” said
the captain whose team was playing at home.

Speaking after prize presentation, TNM’s Sponsorship Manager Limbani Nsapato said the sport has potential to bring good results.

Cricket in Malawi is regarded as a minority sport, the challenges being lack of the facilities especially in remote areas.

The company is sponsoring Cricket Academy since 2012 with K24 million for four years.

Cricket academy’s director Vivek Ganesan said TNM sponsorship has been invaluable up to the extend of having the 2020 senior league in Blantyre and Lilongwe.

“We also have training camps and coaching courses,” he said.

Apart from the annual funding,  TNM recently injected a further K10.3 million for the purchase of equipment to assist the academy break a cricket Guinness world record.

The academy currently has 1,800 kids, 800 of which are girls.

The finals man of the match was Chaudhry Kirti who had 47 runs and 3 wicliels.
