‘I’m not a Satanist’: Malawi’s bishop Simama quizzed on human body parts
Malawi’s arguably richest Pentecostal Pastor and business man, Bishop Abraham Simama has spoken about rumors that have been making rounds linking him to Satanism and devil worshipping.
The bishop told the country’s private owned MIJ FM’s ‘The melting Point’ program that such rumors gain strength and spread like wild fire because he is a true servant of God.
“I know people link me to all sorts of occultism but you know what I’m not bothered because I’m a true servant of God,” said Simama.
“I’m not a Satanist and I don’t know what you are talking about,” refuted Simama when presenter of the program Anthony Masamba probed him about the issue.
Throughout the program, Simama remained calm and focused in wake of barrage of questions that largely aimed at his personal life which remains a mystery to most Malawians regarding his accumulation of wealth.
He seemingly lost his cool the moment the presenter started accusing him of dining and wining with the political elite.
The reporter even accused the ‘Man of God’ of snatching his current wife from a Mr. Msiska in Karonga, an allegation Simama laughed off.
“I have never seen the Msiska you are talking about but I have been with my current wife Lizness for over 25 years. Let me ask you not to dwell much on people’s past because almost every living creature has his or her past as such it is not good at all to talk about people’s past.
“I never snatched a wife from anybody in fact the time I was marrying her we had nothing we started from scratch and were sleeping on a mat. So to say I used my financial stamina to snatch a wife is a joke of all time,” explained Simama who is founding president of Glorious Light International Church.
On allegations that he used his political connections to acquire a Malawi government building in capital Lilongwe where his church uses for Sunday services, Simama asked the presenter to produce evidence of his insinuations.
When the programme host insisted that he has information to the effect that Simama does not pay rent for the building which was designed for street kids’ shelter, Simama responded:,” Look at me do I look like someone who can fail to pay rentals? As far as I’m concerned the church is paying monthly rentals for that place that’s all I know.”
On his relationship political leadership of the country, Simama said he is under biblical obligation to serve the regime of the day saying his relationship with the politicians is gift from God.
Added he: “If at all I’m that connected as you are suggesting then I thank God for that because connection is the most important gift in life. You are here today interviewing me because you called me without that connection you wouldn’t have found me.
“I have worked with Kamuzu Banda, Muluzi, Mutharika and I’m now working with Joyce Banda. When another leader comes I will also work with that regime that’s what my job as man of God demands me to do. Actually my Bible teaches me to respect every authority for there is no authority that does not come from God.”
The interview reached a tipping point when the presenter accused the cleric of being found in possession of human body parts some years back.
Charged Simama: “Did you see those body parts yourself? As I said earlier devil would use people to discredit the true servants of God but even in the midst of such lies and fabrications I shall remain steadfast and energized to further spread the word of God. So lastly let me answer you again that I’m not a Satanist and don’t aspire to become one. I cannot serve God and devil at same time.”
Bishop Simama a Tanzanian national settled in Karonga, Malawi in 1982 and since then he has seen his empire parachuting and is regarded as one of the country’s richest men.
Apart from ministering, he also runs several businesses including transport, farming, purchasing and supply, property and import and export.
Simama is also a business partner of another magnate Leston Mulli and the two jointly run the National Bus Company previously owned by Malawi government.
