The amount is an addition to the K11million IWAM raised in what has been a successful year from June 2015.

IWAM is composed of women living in Malawi from many different countries plus local women with the objective to raise funds and support charitable activities in Malawi.

Chairlady Shams El-Adawy, wife of the Ambassador of Egypt says the group is currently growing in membership and activities.

“We have two main fundraising activities, the IWAM Bazaar and the Food Fest. Last year, 300 hundred people attended the Food Fest in which we raised K600, 000. This year 500 people attended and we raised double the amount of last year.”

“Many countries also took part in this food fest, Sudan, Italy, Netherlands, Egypt, Zambia, Tanzania, China Japan, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Turkey, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Philippines and Malawi with some attending for the first time. We also had the United Nations and COMESA,” she said.

On IWAM projects, El-Adawy said the group is supporting 10 students (boys and girls) by paying tuition for their secondary school education and an additional 5 in partnership with Beautify Malawi Trust.

IWAM also supports various organizations including Joyful Motherhood, St. Mary’s Rehabilitation Center, Tikondane, Kachere young person’s rehabilitation center, Orphanage Center in Area 22, Nyumba ya Amai in Area 49, Missionaries of Charity among others.

Japan and Kenya were among the countries whose food were hot selling in the food fest, with Japanese table clearing out within the first two hours.
