It’s official! Medi appointed new Malawi Chief Immigration Officer

As Nyasa Times first reported, it has been made official that Masauko Medi,a senior police officer, has been appointed as new chief immigration officer replacing Hudson Mankhwala.

The government spokesperson Kondwani Nankhumwa confirmed, saying President Peter Mutharika made the appointment “ sometime last week”.

According to Nankhumwa, who is also minister of information, Tourism and Culture , Medi  until his appointment, was senior deputy commissioner of Police responsible for community policing and rural patrol based at the National Police headquarters in Lilongwe.

He is not the first police officer to head Immigration Department  as Elvis Thodi a former cop also was a Chief Immigration Officer.

Medi studied town and country planning and is a 1997 graduate of the University of Malawi’s Chancellor College.

He is also a holder of a masters degree in business admistration from the Eastern and southern african management (Esami)based in Arusha,Tanzania.

Born on November 21 1972,Medi comes from Nkhotakota district and has worked for the Malawi Police Service (MPS)since 1998.

This is not true it means the government doesn’t trust the serving Immigration Officers munthu aliyense amafuna kukula ndiye akamangotumiza anthu kutsogoloko it means no Immigration Officer olo atagwira ntchito molimbikira sazakhala head of Immigration zomvetsa chisoni it’s demotivating

Shasmin they were hope that the ARROGANT,POMPOUS,WOMANIZING, and CORRUPT Elvis Thodi was going to come back. That is what he was promised by DPP campaign director. Bravo APM chifukwa simuna mvetsere pressure from the Mulhakho wing to replace Elvis Thodi back to Immigration.

I know Medi. He is from Nkhotakota. He is Anglican. Has a bachelor of education in humanities. Graduated as a teacher of geography. Joined the police. Did his MBA. He is a good soccer player.Ndi mzathu uyu and all that love young people should be excited that achinyamata are taking leadership jobs. I know people at immigration, some of them are not happy but I can assure you guys he has welfare of his staff at heart,,,,kafunseni ku police even the blue eagles footballers…..well where do immigration personnel train? at police colleges….I don’t see any difference….only prison has its own… Read more »

mbuzi inu, bwanji ma jealous? Medi has an MBA qualification and he is going there as an administrator. His role is just to lead and give directions. The Gonondos will be doing the implementation. Finish. Even a civilian can head Immigration!
