JB fires Nurses Council chair Chiudzu, replaced with Kandoole

Malawi President Joyce Banda has fired Grace Chiudzu from her position as Chairperson of the Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi.

Registrar of Nurses and Midwives council of Malawi Martha Mondiwa has confirmed the development.

She however could not be drawn to comment on reasons behind Chudzu’s chopping.

“I do not know the reasons behind the termination of Dr. Grace Chiudzu’s Services; all I know is that Neema [Kandoole] has already reported for duties,” said Mondiwa on Wednesday.

The President has therefore appointed Neema Kandoole as Chiudzu’s replacement with effect from January 13th 2014.

The firing comes barely few days after Nurses across the country marched across the country where they also petition President Banda on Monday this week as a way of forcing the government to enact a conversion of nurses upgrading programme as well as the firing of Chiudzu.

Kandoole who is a nurse/midwife by profession bounces back after retiring in 2011.

“I am a Nurse/midwife by profession and I retired in 2011, and now I am back and that is why I am saying it is a second calling. I cannot say much, because I will have to look at the setup of the board, its policies and so on and so forth. From then, that’s when I can tell you, how I will work,” she said.
