JB promises tight security at Korean hospital in Malawi: Daeyoung

President Joyce Banda has assured doctors and nurses at a private Hospital -Daeyoung Hospital in Lilongwe that her government will give the hospital all the security in needs for them to work without any problems.

Banda made the remarks when she made an impromptu tour of the hospital Thursday morning.

President Banda assured the hospital staff that she appreciates the noble job the hospital is doing and that she will see to it that the robberies that have jeopardised the work at the hospital are dealt with.

Banda directed that the hospital be police patrolled 24 hours by the Malawi Police Service.

Background

The Daeyoung hospital was built in 2008 with funding from South Korea. It is run on Christian values under the Korean Presbyterian Mission to Malawi.

The hospital boasts of hi-tech equipment and is one of the best hospitals in Lilongwe. It is a paying hospital but prices are heavily subsidised.

The hospital has suffered from frequent robberies that almost forced the hospital to close until the President intervened.

Library

The Director of the Hospital Sister Young Beack reported to the President that the hospital is almost finishing its library which will help the staff enhance their career.

On this note Sister Young asked President Banda if the Library which will be opened soon could be named after her. President Banda gladly accepted the name.

Speaking earlier Deputy minister of Health Halima Daudi, said the construction of the hospital has eased congestion at the referral hospital, Kamuzu Central.

The President later addresses hundreds of people that gathered outside the hospital.
