JB signs Mandela book of condolence

Malawi’s President Joyce Banda on Monday signed the Nelson Mandela Condolence Book at the South African High Commission in Lilongwe.

She told reporters that she has always held ‘Madiba’ in high esteem “as the Greatest Son of Africa”.

“There are many great lessons that we have learnt and can learn from our fallen statesman. One great thing that I learnt from Nelson Mandela is ‘forgiveness’. Mandela was subjected to intimidation and torture in prison for 27 years. But when he became President, he reconciled the nation; forgiving those that had subjected him to misery,” she told reporters after signing the Condolence Book.

She said when he was released from prison, Mandela preached about One South Africa; a Rainbow Nation that belonged to all irrespective of the colour of their skin.

“I have made some of my decisions as Head of State for my country drawing inspiration from Madiba. May His Soul Rest in Everlasting Peace”
