JB snubs Khumbo openly in Mzuzu

Malawi President Joyce Banda on Monday could not even utter a word to State Vice President Khumbo Kachali at a function the two attended in Mzuzu.

Banda, who side-lining Kachali for the position of the running mate, speaking at Mary Mount Secondary school during the Zodiac radio awards of best girl student, downplayed  Kachale in her protocol salutations.

She however recognised ruling People’s Party (PP) vice president for the centre Uladi Mussa promientlly.

Banda dumped Kachali for Minister of Trade and Industry Sosten Gwengwe as running mate for her PP candidature.

Kachali described his side-lining as a vote of no confidence but the President said Kachali was only picked to finish former president the late Bingu WA Mutharika’s term.

Even when they sat at the VIP podium, President Banda was conspicuously not interested to look where Kachali was and did not exchange notes with the Veep as they usually do.

The body language of the President also showed her not at ease with the VP.

Some government officials were also seen to be shunning Kachali who is being regarded in the eyes of the ruling elite as the “not wanted one”

However, Kachali never walked alone as his entitled state security and those apolitical including Bishop Joseph Zuza of the influential Catholic Church gave him some company.

He looked calm and composed.
