JB support sharply increase with SADC summit: Her Facebook page attracts thousands

President Dr Joyce Banda’s support increased sharply as thousands of people on social networks across  the world responded to her call to join her in welcoming heads of states for the Southern African Development Community (SADC)  summit.

On Thursday evening President Banda issued a statement on her Facebook page,  ” my dear friends,  please join me in welcoming our African leaders by typing the word  ‘welcome’ in your preferred language wherever you are so we make them feel at home as we host SADC summit here in the warm heart of Africa. “

Her Facebook message has reached over half  a million people with thousands of people typing the word welcome from all over the world.

This is the first time in Malawian history that the President interacts with people on social networks sites to update the public about government engangements.

Joyce Banda Facebook page has attracted over 345, 000 likes within few months of joining the Facebook community.

The opposition leader John Tembo has applauded the administration of President Banda in the fashion the SADC summit has been organised and for attracting high profile delegates.

Tembo said,  unlike the current PP and Banda’s government which is praised for instituting democratic principles,   delegates would have shunned the  previous DPP government if it was in power  because of it’s  bad record of human rights abuses in Malawi.

Banda will take over the chair post when the regional bloc meets this weekend in Lilongwe.
