Cosmos have however opted to fill its remaining foreign quota by recruiting a goalkeeper during the January transfer window.

According to Cosmos’ local-based agent Ben Chiwaya, Banda  “did well”  during week-long trials early this month and passed the test.

Howeve, he said after careful deliberation it was decided that the transfer could not proceed because  “the priority now was to sign a goalkeeper.”

The midfielder said he has been communicated by the Johannesburg-based outfit  that they might consider  him in the next transfer window upon off-loading some foreign players.

Banda conceded he is “disappointed” with the failed move.

He said there are other teams interested in him and a new window of opportunity might open up.

“We shall see, but of course  and confident of a good move,” he told Nyasa Times.

Banda, who is police officer, is also linked to a Mozambique Club, Costa de Sol.

what type of recruitment policies does J cosmos have which makes them call a forward for trials while they are in need of a goal keeper? reminiscent of interviewing a truck driver while u need a security officer. poor Ben and Jomo Cosmos!

I don’t get it,maybe it’s due to poverty or a desperate desire to play abroad. Malawian players don’t dream big but only to be fooled by mediocre clubs like Jomo Cosmos. John Banda can be a good acquisition for any team in Israel, Denmark,Sweden,Switzerland, Belgium, Greece, and even Holland, but looks like he has a strong desire to play in RSA or Mozambique. People like Chiwaya are not true agents but are just representatives of certain useless clubs that have the audacity to give trials to national team players. If Cosmos wanted to priotise a goal-keeper then why waste Banda’s time… Read more »

This ben chiwaya nd his boss jomo sono are playing with malawi players minds, they take malawi for granted nd they deserve to be taught a serious lesson. The same thing they did to silumba last year.
