Joseph Kamwendo signs for TP Mazembe on five-year deal

Malawi national team playmaker Joseph ‘Shakira’ Kamwendo has signed a five -year contract with top Democratic Republic of Congo club TP Mazembe.

The versatile midfielder has been signed from Mozambqiue club Desportivo Liga Maculmana.

”I can confirm that Joseph Kamwendo has signed a five year contract this morning with TP Mazembe,” player agent Felix Ngamanya Sapao Nyasa Times on Thursday.

The former Mighty Wanderers player could not disclose the signing fee.

Kamwendo speaking from DRC in a telephone interview with Nyasa Times said he was “overwhelmed” to be signed by one of the top African clubs.

“Every player wants to be successful and TP Mazembe are one of the biggest clubs in Africa, I am happy they have signed me,”he said.

“TP Mazembe is a very well-known club in Africa, a very successful club. I am really happy to be here and I will prove myself that I have all the qualities,” he added.

He also said as “a proud Malawian,  I wanna thank Malawians for the support they have given me. I will not let them down.”

Sapao said he was grateful to Frederic Kitengie (Mazembe Manager), Andre Mtine from Zambia and  Rafik Sidat (Muculmana President) for ensuring that  the deal is sealed.

“Without them we could not have had or done the deal,” he said.

TP Mazembe coach Patrice Carteron said he was “ =very pleased” the Malawian star player has joined his club.

He described Kamwendo as a player of real quality, with a fantastic work rate and great mentality.
