Junior players bemoan featuring Super League stars in local K3m Sangala Cup

Junior football players in the K3 million Aaron  Sangala Football Trophy have expressed their concern over the participation of  top flight  league  players in the competition.

One official from Ndirande Icons football team told Nyasa Times that he is very disappointed with the development.

Super League players like Gerald Chimbaka and Innocent Dzimbiri who play for Mighty Wanderers, Benard Harawa from Escom United, Yamikani Tambala from Big Bullets and Brown Mize from Blantyre United are being featured in various teams in the trophy.

“I understand that Sangala introduced the trophy to give more room for young and upcoming player to expose their skills and talents but with this development I doubt if these hidden talents would not be spotted,” said one of the residents of Ndirance Jack Phiri.

Another player from Nyambadwe Lions football club says such behavior would spoil the future of the young players.

“You see we take part in these trophies to make our names, players like Gerald Chimbaka, Benard Harawa and the like have already made their names I don’t know what they want to achieve in this trophy,” he added.

He however attributed the problem to poor management of the organizing committee, saying the committee would have come up with a deliberate policy that would get away with such incidences.

Chairperson for thetTrophy, Syrus Liwindo, confirmed having received such complaints but said his committee has no problem with those Super League players who are coming from within the constituency.

“Yes as the organizing committee we have received such complaints but we did not put such demarcations provided players are coming from within Blantyre Malabada Constituency,” Liwindo.

Liwindo said the players like Innocent Dzimbiri and Benard Harawa are eligible to play in the trophy however the committee has summoned football clubs which featured strange players for discipline.

“Let me tell you that my committee has summoned those teams which featured intruders like Gerald Chimbaka and Yamikani Tambala for disciplinary hearing because they are not coming from our area,” he explained.
