Kachali says ‘happy and proud PP is losing’: Malawi outgoing VP wins as MP
The outgoing State Vice President and former ruling People’s Party (PP) vice-president for the northern region, Khumbo Kachali has said he is “happy and proud” to have made a decision in endorsing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Peter Mutharika in the elections, saying early results has shown PP is losing.
Kachali has since branded President Joyce Banda as clueless and lacked vision to govern the country.
Kachali and Banda fell out when he was left out on the choice of the party’s running-mate. Banda chose Sosten Gwengwe as her running-mate in the presidential race leaving out Kachali whom she was appointed State Vice-President when she took over presidency in 2012 following the death of late President Bingu wa Mutharika.
Kachali quit PP last week and immediately endorsed Mutharika who took an early lead in the elections trailed by MCP president, Lazarus Chakwera.
Posting on his Facebook page, Kachali said Banda’s administration was clueless and had no strategic direction.
“I would also like to thank the majority of Malawians who listened to my humble plea, to usher out of Government, a clueless administration of President Joyce Banda, who I repeatedly said lacked the necessary vision and strategic direction to change this country,” said Kachali in the posting.
Kachali argued that PP was losing the elections by any means, and sounded jovial for endorsing Mutharika currently on the blink of winning the presidency, if counting of votes still go in his favour.
“Friends, I would like to like to wish you a happy Wednesday. I must state that am very happy and proud of the choice I made for myself and my followers on the Presidential Candidate to support.
“I say this with confidence because I am 100% sure that whatever happens in this election, the blind PP with its frivolous leadership is losing.”
He then thanked people who helped him reclaim the Mzimba North Parliamentary seat which he surrendered the moment he became State Vice-President.
“I would like to thank the people of Mzimba North for their continued trust in my leadership.”
“I urge all Malawians to keep their peace as we wait for the final official results and usher in a new and clean administration. God bless you all.”
Vote counting is still in progress but there some surprises especially for President Joyce Banda as her running-mate Sosten Gwengwe is performing miserably in the Parliamentary elections beside several other notable PP officials who are set to lose the elections.
