Kalombo appointed chair of Malawi Sports Council
President Joyce Banda has appointed retired Fifa referee Bester Kalombo as Chairperson of the Malawi National Council of Sports, Nyasa Times has learnt.
Kalombo has replaced Malawi Congress Party president Dr. Lazarous Chakwera who resigned from the post when he joined front line politics.
Soccer administrators believes Kalombo is the right candidate for the post in line with his vast experience in sports administration.
He returned home recently after eight years of service at the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Kalombo, the only Malawian to have officiated as a main referee at an Africa Cup of Nations, among many other assignments, is an educationist by profession.
He is one of the best referees Malawi has ever produced and is fluent in French, Arabic and German.
