Kanyenda given car as he sweeps awards in South Africa
Malawi veteran striker Esau ‘Black Mamba’ Kanyenda was on Friday honoured by the owner of South Africa’s Polokwane City FC with a new car and K1.8 million after emerging best player and top goal-scorer.
Kanyenda, who finished as the team’s top scorer and third leading scorer for the South Africa National First Division with only four goals that separated them described the recognition as a big motivation.
“Let me thank God first before saluting my coach, teammates and our supporters who have been supporting me since l joined Polokwane. Wwithout their help l do not think l could have been here celebrating this gift,” Kanyenda told Nyasa Times in a telephone interview from his base in Polokwane.
Kanyenda received the car and R35 000 for being the club’s best player for last season.
He also received R25 000 as the Golden Boot Award winner.
Kanyenda was recognised for his sterling displays when Polokwane successfully campaigned for promotion from First Division to Premier Soccer League (PSL).
Polokwane chairperson Johnny Mogaladi has since challenged that his club is in the top-tier South African league to stay.
