Polokwane City veteran forward Esau Kanyenda scored in Malawi’s 2-0 home win over Mali and praised recalled fellow veteran Fischer Kondowe for injecting life in the Flames attack on Saturday.

Kanyenda netted on the 85th minute to calm the Kamuzu Stadium nerves, Blantyre nerves after Robert Ng’ambi had opened the scoring in the 65th minute of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations Group B match.

“I’m happy that we won. Football is about crosses and Fischer’s cross was inch perfect. I think this is a good team that was only lacking experience which we have brought,” said Kanyenda who coach Young Chimodzi recalled alongside the Big Bullets winger Kondowe following back to back losses to Algeria last month.

Kondowe set clear right back John Lanjesi to deliver the telling cross which Kanyenda headed into the net.

The win ended the Flames’ poor run of form. Now on six points at par with second-placed Mali while lying third, Malawi travel to Ethiopia this Wednesday hoping to sneak through to the Afcon finals from the group whose leaders Algeria also secured their place.

“If we go and play this way in Ethiopia this Wednesday, I believe we can also get the three points,” said the in-form forward Kanyenda. -SuperSport

Kanyenda has all the freedom to say a win is sweet coz if the Flames had lost he and Fitscher would have been the culprits of insults of all kinds. So congraculations our veterans. To Young and the rest of the Ambasadors please dont relax until the last whistle and claim the victory for the pride of all Malawians. Wishing you all the best in Ethiopia.Flames Wooooooooooo yeeeeeeeeee.

We laud the current win. However, loss of trust in the Flames is because of repeated losses over years if not decades. If we get repeated wins over many years to decades, our faith in the team will rise again.
