Karonga Diocese rejects joining council cashgate case
The Diocese of Karonga says it will not be part of the case in which the Karonga district council is being accused of misuse of K50 million public money.
Bishop Secretary Father Joseph Sikwese said they were “not interfering” with the case.
Earlier reports indicated that the Diocese, under the shepherdhood of Bishop Martin Mtumbuka, would be joining in the case to see to it that “justice takes course.”
But Father Sikwese downplayed the articles, saying the diocese is not joining the case.
Karonga district council suspended the director of finance after the council workers went without pay and a preliminary investigation revealed that money amounting to K50 million had been lost through dubious means.
This is the first time that some ward councillors have been named in alleged plundering of public money.
Not long ago, councilors were also arrested in Mangochi for the same.
