Kishombe: Maseko is fired

Maseko, who is also the district physical planning officer, is one of the prime fraud  suspects at the council.

According to the letter signed by Karonga district council chairperson Patrick Kishombe, the dismissal is of immediate effect.

“During our meetings we found that there are a lot of discrepancies and incredibility in your office as the acting director of public works,” read the letter.

“You have failed to produce report on Malata and Cement Subsidy, MASAF 4 project and how the grader is used,” stated the letter.

The council says it will assign a caretaker on the post.

In a separate interview, Kishombe said the decision is part of making sure that their investigation on the matter is not interfered.

“You know a lot of council’s resources have been misused under his office so the dismissal is paving way for our investigation,” said Kishombe.

According to Kishombe, the council will make sure that all cash gate suspects are being arrested after finding evidence.

Karonga residents are blaming Maseko and other officials for plundering millions of government projects’ resources such as Malata and cement subsidy as well as MASAF 4 projects.

Maseko denies any wrongdoing .

Recently, the council dismissed the Director of Finance Sanderson Nyirenda after misusing the market revenue.
