Karonga mob burns vehicle after hitting cyclist

Angry villagers in Karonga burnt to ashes a Toyota Vitz registration number NU 675 after the driver hit to death a cyclist due to reckless driving.

The car has been identified as property belonging to Anderson Kaweche, Karonga Agricultural Development Division (ADD) deputy programs manager.

Karonga police deputy PRO, George Mlewa, confirmed the development, saying it occurred around 6 pm on Sunday along the Karonga-Chitipa M1 Road.

“A fracas erupted in the aftermath of the accident and the angry villagers burnt the vehicle to ashes,” said Mlewa.

Mlewa also mentioned that they were keeping Kaweche who is expected to appear in court soon for irresponsible driving and murder charges.

An eye witness Gabriel Kamanga said the villagers got furious when they noticed that Kaweche was planning on running away rather than being responsible.

The deceased, Mateyu Mwamulima, 50, hailed from Mwafilaso Village, Traditional Authority Kyungu in the district.

I agree with the idea of testing the cyclist if he was drunk or not. It is possible that he caused the accident other than the vehicle driver.
Police should do something on this. I also demand that those burnt the vehicle should be arrested because they are not judges. How did they know that the driver was wrong. Is it only because the cyclist died and therefore innocent. Mxiii !

Mob justice everywhere mmm hope something is wrong somewhere in our social system, anyway, it saves time and money! Our prisons are already full, no justice for the poor in our courts, so i believe that is the simplest way of dealing with criminals!!!

KU Malawi kukhala ndi Galimoto ndi chimo. Bwanji apolisi sagwira pedestrian olakwitsa malamulo pa msewu. For example ma fligh overs sagwira ntchito mtauni yet police traffic is there not enforcing the laws on the roads. This is why cyclists think they are the owners of the road and not motor vehicle drivers. Sure boma lingamange tarmak road kuti munthu aziseweramo ndi phazi lake?
