Karonga woman nabbed for illegal possession of medical drugs
Police in Malawi’s northern border district of Karonga have arrested a 65 year old woman for possessing medical drugs without license.
Karonga police Public Relations Officers Enock Rivason says the suspect Christina Mbaraswa of Mwafilaso village in the area of paramount chief Kyungu was arrested Saturday morning on her way to northern city of Mzuzu.
“On Saturday police conducted a snap road block at Luwali. in the process of searching a certain minibus we found a bag containing different types of drugs but the woman did not have any license that allow her to have the medicine,” said Rivason.
According to Rivasion, the suspect had 16 cartons of Hemocue 301which contain four bottles each, six cartons of Quinine containing 10 ampouls each, 14 Precise surgical suture cartons containing 12 units each, Microbar three bottles and Super ulstar two bottles.
Rivasion added that the suspect was also arrested in 2004 for the same offense.
“It seems that it is a routine for this woman because she was arrested in 2004 for the same offense and also the drugs are for Malawian government,” said Rivason
According to Rivasion the estimated amount of medicine is about K20 million.
