Kasambara complains to court: Mphwiyo case to run for three days in November

The Lilongwe High Court has adjourned the case in which lawyer Ralph Kasambara, Pika Manondo, Dauka Manondo and others are answering charges of attempted murder and conspiracy to murder former budget director Paul Mphwiyo to November 12.
The case will run for three days up to November 14.

One of the defence team lawyers Wapona Kita told the court that they cannot proceed with cross examining Mphwiyo as the state has not provided them with some important documents.

Kasambara, who is representing himself, complained to the court that the prosecution had not served him with certain documents as ordered by the court.

The former justice minister said he had also not been served with the call-logs which he requested through the court.

In July, the defence said the state is withholding some important documents on Deco Terrastone Company and Glen Watersland payments.

This followed Mphwiyo claims that Kasambara was giving him pressure to release payments to two companies.

Justice Micheal Ntambo, then ordered the state to provide the defence will all necessary documents.

Before the adjournment, Judge Ntambo said the case is dragging due to some unnecessary developments.

“We are losing some precious time on simple issues instead of making some progress,” he said.

He then ordered both parties to be ready when the hearing resume in November.

The case resumed on Monday with continuation of the cross-examination of Mphwiyo by Kasambara.
