Katsonga brothers, Masangwi elected as MPs

Katsonga brothers Mark and Davis, who have performed miserably in the presidential race, have been voted to Parliament.

Mark Katsonga who also contested as presidential candidate for People’s Progressive Movement (PPM) won Neno South constituency which he served from 2004 to 2009 before he lost it.

Davis Chesters Katsonga of Chipani Cha Pfuko reclaimed the Mwanza Central constituency which was being held by Nicholous Dausi.

Davis served previously as Speaker of Parliament.

Amongst notable new entrants to the legislative body includes Democratc Progressive Party (DPP) controversial executive member Noel Masangwi who defeated former Mining Minister John Bande.

Former Minister in Bakili Muluzi government, Harry Thomson, has made a surprise comeback on an independent ticket ending Grain Malunga’s five year stint in the august House while Sam Ganda who was dumped by PP and stood as independent has retained Nsanje Lalanje Constituency.

Malawi held first-ever tripartite elections on May 20.
