Katsonga ill in UK, president of Chipani Cha Pfuko

President of Chipani Cha Pfuko (CCP), Davis Chester Katsonga is ill and has been undergoing treatment at a London Hospital, the party has confirmed.

Katsonga, a former Speaker and Minister, left Malawi for London last year October and has been undergoing medical treatment since then.

CCP spokesman in UK, William Phiri, confirmed that Katsonga is unwell.

Phiri said Katsonga visited a couple of renowned medical facilities in Malawi who could not identify the ailment afflicting him and the condition continued to deteriorate and decided to seek medical help in UK.

“After undergoing a battery of tests at a London hospital it was decided by the surgeons that the Right Honourable needed to be operated upon. Consequently, he has had two operations since and, is now recuperating and being monitored by the doctors who think that, everything being equal, he should make a full and complete recovery and be well enough to travel back home within the next three weeks or so,” said Phiri.

According to Phiri, the CCF president is thanking people who have been and continue to pray for his recovery, saying “it does look like the dear Lord has heard your prayers.”

Katsonga quit the former governing DPP in 2011 calling it a sinking ship and rejoined United Democratic Front (UDF) which he had also ditched and announced leading CCP.

CCP, which boost the membership of former tax commissioner Ernest Mtingwi and former minister Lee Mlanga, uses deep green as its colour with some brown and a miniature traditional drum as its insignia.
