After days of speculation, rumours and reports, it’s finally official: South African PSL outfit Free State Stars has fired Malawian Kinnah Phiri as head coach following three losses in their first three league matches.
Football has very much become a “what have you done for me lately” sport and no matter what Kinnah did in the past, it did not count to Free State Stars recent dip of form.
Stars’ first loss was at home against Mpumalanga Black Aces, going down 1-0 at Goble Park on August 8.
That was followed by a 4-0 drubbing by Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on August 22.
On Wednesday, they lost 2-1 to Ajax Cape Town at Athlone Stadium, which triggered manaement’s decision to sack Kinnah.
According to South Africa’s Kickoff news, the former Malawi national team coach has beenreplaced him with Ernst Middendorp, a German.
“Kinnah is fired and Middendorp is taking over,” Kickoff quoted an named source/
Middendorp, an ex-Kaizer Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic boss, was formerly on the books of Chippa United last season.
