Kutsaila unwanted in Malawi Congress Party

Just days after Malawi ex-spy Bintony Kutsaila’s re-admission into the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) seemed to be certain, some of the youth members have written the party’s President John Tembo asking him not to accept the former Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) strongman into the party.

In a letter addressed to Tembo the group calling itself the Young Friends of MCP branded Kutsaila as an opportunist and unstable politician whose agenda during his hay days in the DPP was to destroy the MCP and its leadership.

The letter signed by the group’s leader writer Shadreck Chiko says the youths were surprised, shocked and sad with Kutsaila’s move and were suspicious of his agenda to join a party which he worked against for almost six year to see it completely destroyed.

“MCP is truly a party of all peoples, but not every person who joins the party does so with good motives, for some like Kutsaila cannot at all bring any good. Kutsaila is everything MCP has stood against, which is politics of opportunism and instability,” reads part of the letter.

Chikoti said Kutsaila’s attempts to re-join the MCP was just because he has been rejected by both the DPP and the now ruling PP.

He said this was clear after Kutsaila failed to win a seat in the DPP and also recently booted out of his position as Agricultutral Advisor in the PP.

Chikoti praised Tembo for working hard to save the party from complete demise but warned that all what he has worked for can be lost if he let people like Kutsaila come back into the party.

It is believed that Tembo, in suspicious circumstances already accepted Kutsaila back into the MCP although this is against the wishes of many in the party including members of the national executive committee.

Reports say that it took no less than four visits to the residence of John Zenas Ungapake Tembo for Kutsaira to secure reception back in MCP.

On his first three visits, in keeping with the party’s well publicised view on political vagabonds, Kutsaira was categorically rejected.

But later Tembo changed his heart amidst speculation that the two: Honourable JZU Tembo and Kuntsaira are up to no good. Reportedly, Kuntsaira’s role is to boost Honourable John Tembo’s chances of holding on to the presidency of the MCP and thwart the stiff competition the veteran politician is facing from the several other presidential aspirants.

Tembo is currently facing about 10 strong contestants and some are speculating that the ruling PP is just using Kutsaila as a plant in  the MCP as Tembo seems to be the one holding the key to the Peoples Party (PP) strategy for the forthcoming elections.

There is clear information reaching other media sources that if Honourable John Tembo retains the MCP presidency, he is likely to coax MCP to enter into an electoral alliance with PP on condition that he becomes incumbent President Joyce Banda’s running mate.

However, reports indicate that Kutsaila is not only being despised within the party executive members but even in his constituency. Visiting his own constituency in the company of the respected old guard Mai Manjamkhosi; the people in the constituency, inclusive of chiefs, openly rejected him.
