The form four students, who performed well in class and different disciplines, were spoiled with gifts worth K1.5 million during a graduation ceremony which took place at their school premises in Blantyre.

Association national chairperson Yvonne Phoya di-Fasio said that the association decided to award the performing students as one way of motivating them ahead of the MSCE.

“We thought it wise to motivate the out-going students for them to have the desire to achieve so much more. As Alumni’s of this school we assure them that the best is yet to come from us,” said Di- Fasio.

She added: “A woman in a society is a pillar and we told them that they should aim high and fend for themselves in future.”

Di-Fasio said they have also plans to assist the school after they learnt that it is facing major challenge in a number of things.

“We are going to conduct fundraising activities in all four cities in the country to raise funds towards this cause,” She said.

Di-Fasio said they are hopeful of fulfilling their goal because they will partner with companies.

“It is also encouraging that we have overwhelming support from many alumni but we also urge those who are in diaspora to come forward with assistance. We have the spirit to start which is a giant step towards fulfilling our goal,” she said.

Rachel Mijiga, a member of the association and Airtel Malawi Enterprise Director, encouraged the out-going students to work hard and assured them they will fulfill their ambition.

“I graduated from this school to be where l am today. A lot of women have walked into the corridors of Our Lady Wisdom and why can’t you do the same? You can do it girls, it is a matter of focus and working hard in class, “she said.

Mijiga said the event was “successful” and that they plan to hold fund raising activities for the school.

“There are many challenges this school is facing like, desks are broken, walls are dirty, roofs are wrecked, some toilets are not working. This affect students’ performance and we will do something,” she said.

During the ceremony many students like Yolanda Salaniponi, Maureen Munjale, Sarah Matengula, Tiamo Nyangulu just to mention a few were decorated with gifts for their outstanding performances in class.
