Chairperson of the organizing Committee Brenda Gunde said they came up with idea after observing problems that the school is facing.

She said lack of school blocks is forcing pupils to learn under trees thus making unconducive learning environment for them, a situation which is encouraging school dropouts.

“It is very pathetic to see pupils learning under a tree, so as concerned citizens we sat down to discuss how we can help, that is why we have come up with this initiative. The school is in need of two school blocks of two classes each to carter fr the growing number of students who are learning under trees,” she said.

Currently, there are four classes that are learning under trees with an enrollment of 90 to 120 pupils per class, respectively.

According to Gunde, the school committee and the community around Mtunthama Primary School have committed to source bricks, quarry stones, river and dambo sand as their contribution for constructing the classroom blocks.

The Chairperson therefore appealed to companies and individuals to partner with them in raising funds which would be used to buy cement, building accessories, roofing materials and desks.

“As an individual you can participate or sponsor another golfer for a sponsorship of MK20, 000 while a team of four can be sponsored at MK80, 000,” she added.

Mthunthama Primary School is situated next to Kamuzu Academy in Kasungu district.
