The song is taken off a joint upcoming EP which the hip-hop superstar Tay Grin and Sonye are working on. The project is produced by the former, a gifted singer, songwriter and producer.

It comes out after Sonye and Tay Grin released recent latest bangers “Tsika” and “Chipapapa” feat. 2Baba”, respectively.

“Tsika” was nominated for local UMP Awards 2015 Song of the Year while “Chipapapa” is one of the biggest tracks on the continent, currently on No. 3 on Trace URBAN “Africa 10”.

Kanda is a manganje song, a dance popular in the South-Eastern region of Malawi fused with Tay Grin’s signature Nyau music from the central region and a Naija feel; this is a song which will boundlessly keep Malawi and Africa on the dance-floor.

“The release date 15 June happens to be my birthday and this is my present to all my fans in Malawi, Africa and the rest of the world. We keep the 2016 goals alive, Kanda will make the world dance,” says Tay Grin.

While revealing that “it was great working with Tay Grin and Orezi, Sonye adds: “We’re putting pure Malawian sound on the international scene, bringing manganje and Nyau music to the world, and Orezi gave it that awesome Naija feel and made the song wholly African, it’s a heavy song with deep rich cultural content.”

Respected Malawian radio and club DJ Joy Nathu has praised the song saying it is adventurous and interesting.

“It brings out the musician in Tay Grin who does not rap but sing on the song. And he sings better than most people think he can, which shows his maturity in music. And the collabo works well too because Sonye and Orezi both did good work on their verses and I think it’s tough to say who sang better than who because all three sang well,” says Joy Nathu who premiered the song on Radio 2 FM Monday night inside his new show Made On Monday.

He adds: “And the production is out of this world. The manganje beat was done in a youthful modern way and to find a Nigerian singing so perfectly to it shows how good Malawian beats are.”
