According to the Synod’s General Secretary Reverend Levi Nyondo, the college will be built in the north of the country to plug the gap for trained agriculture experts in Malawi.

“We have many students who would like to join the field of Agriculture but due to limited space in our colleges, they fail to do so,” he lamented on Monday.

Nyondo said the proposed college will be a national institution like other colleges annexed to the University of Malawi (Unima) colleges, adding that its construction which will start soon will be completed in three years.

Malawi has only one College of Agriculture known as the Lilongwe University for Agriculture and Natural Resources under Unima.

Too early for opening up another college another college! Why not improve unilia nd introduce those agricultural programmes at unilia???? Mapanga awiri avumbwitsa ndibwino kumalizitsa kaye zinazi (unilia) which is facin a number of challenges!

  2. zulu_ipa_pu says:

its a good idea to construct the university of agriculture but u need to think on the two campuses u have in the north most especially the ekwendeni campu u need to think on improving the two campuses befor u go further u need to improve these two the the other campus should prevail

  3. Nyengo Yawo says:

Livingstonia! Why can’t u first improve Laws campas, Ekwendeni campus, Embangweni TTC b4 generating ideas of bringing anew collage, kuba basi. These guys are after personal achievements

  4. Vyachalo says:

    where?

  5. Mbanangwa says:

Why not improve Embangweni TTC and Laudon College? Do these two big institutions mean the same school or they are different? If you could improve these colleges then the Gricultural University would create a lo of excitement.

  6. Phwetembwe says:

Please do that so that my son attends higher education. But put in your curriculum subject that empowers students to have employers attitude & not employees. Malawi society should move away from primitive mindset of just thinking of getting a job to running a business. How many Bunda students are teaching instead of opening commercial farms since their expertise can be better be used in that area than teaching. You never see a doctor working at garage. Make sure the university produces real scientists who must produce real innovation & not textbook science

  9. eye eye says:

please make sure that the buildings and campus should look at NRC as the ‘minimum’ standards and start from there…….nothing less than NRC will be ideal in terms of infrastructure….another question is what level…certificate, diploma, degree? You need a proper needs assessment not just say to fill the gap in agric experts……all the best….

  10. Think Tank says:

The government should NOT dilly-dally in accredition and as it has been with University of Livingstonia. Of course the college must meet the standards before the Synod cries foul!

  11. Peter Nkosi says:

The headline and first sentence are at odds with one another. The headline states categorically that an agricultural college will be built. The article starts of making it clear that the Synod is only thinking about the idea.

There are no specific details whatsoever about the “motted” college, not even where it would be located.

This is announcement is typical of the hot air blown by GoM and NGOs. ‘Tis all pie in the sky.

    1. Peter Nkosi says:

      Bugger!

My third sentence should read: “The article starts off … ”

      Also: “mooted” and not “motted”.

      1. duduzi says:

…..and your Fourth sentence should probably read like ‘This announcement is typical of …………..’.and not ‘This is announcement is …………’

        1. duduzi says:

…..at least on location, the Very Rev. has indicated that it will be constructed in the North unless you are demanding where specifically in the North.

Nyasatimes, you may wish to know that Bunda that is now a main campus of Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, is no longer under UNIMA. It was delinked about two years ago when Mutharika wanted to play good boy in taking away Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST). It is should therefore, be written its under LUANAR period. I thought journalists will be on top of things most often?

Thanks Mr. Nyondo, this is a good move with quota system. We can have our children going to our own Colleges in the North. May God help this project to go all the way up.

We are ABSOLUTELY NOT ONE………………study your history of this nation or just ask your parents or friends of your parents and as long as they are honest they will tell you the truth.

You may ask D.D Phiri if you need more information.

You may also wish to ask Peter Mutharika and refer to the audio recording regarding his talking about the Northerners and Chimunthu Banda.

You may also wish to ask Ministry of Information archive department about the comments Bingu Wa Mutharika made about Northerners in November, 2009.

You may also wish to ask Ministry of Information about the audio recording of MCP’s Dr Banda’s comments and repatriation of the Northerners (teachers) to their homeland(Northern Region).

      The list is endless.

Osazikwata ndi chala Mmhavani – WE WERE NOT, ARE NOT AND WILL NEVER BE ONE AS A NATION NO MATTER WHAT!!

CALL A SPADE A SPADE AND NOT A BIG SPOON, TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT BUT THIS IS THE TRUTH FOR ALL TO KNOW!
