Officer in Charge for Lilongwe Police Station Deputy Commissioner James Munthali disclosed this at a resource mobilisation and stakeholders meeting on safety and security on Thursday.

Munthali said security and policing in the city of Lilongwe meet a lot of challenges especially prior and during Christmas and New Year festivities.

“As a Station we believe that through community based policing approach to security problems we can manage to reduce the fear of crime criminals bring in during festive seasons.

“Resources sometimes limit security operations [hence] it is important that as stakeholders we [should] mobilize resources that will assist in beefing up security operations in order to contain crime in the city,” he said.

Meanwhile, various businesspeople and communities who attended the meeting have since pledged to support the initiative.

They include Minibus Association of Malawi (MAM), the Chinese community, Riverside Hotel, Sana Cash and Carry, Kalaria Group, Muslim Community and Nantipwiri Filling Station, among others.

Munthali also assured the gathering that Lilongwe Police Station was working tirelessly to ensure safety and security is restored in order to make Lilongwe a safer place to live.

He disclosed that a resource mobilisation committee will soon be put in place to further boost resource mobilisation for the operations of the station. -Mana

But they should stop the stupid road blocks in town.Malawi is the only country where police set up road blocks in a highway and at times find a way to penalize you.If I was a lawyer, I would have obtained an injunction for these dogs to get off the road.Fund raising the way you have done here is a worthwhile cause which people will support and not what your VERY STUPID TRAFFIC POLICE DO FINDING FAULT WITH CITIZENS FOR NO REASON.This just abates corruption and the ACB should know about this.
