Lucius Banda, Dan Lu fall out in South Africa

The partnership between Malawian music icon Lucius Banda and his talented protégé Dan Lu hit huge bump when the legendary musician sent the young urban artist packing during their month long tour of South Africa.

As such, Dan Lu  was excluded for the band’s three final shows in Cape Town.

According to an impeccable source close to both artists, the relationship between the two musicians soured soon after they arrived in Johannesburg last month as Dan Lu started going about his personal business as if he was not part of the group.

This apparently riled Lucius as he had demanded that the band stick together at all times.

“Dan Lu was always all over Jo’burg in the company of girls and on some instances he would be gone for days without communicating where he would be. He was behaving like he was on his own,” said the source.

However, the source revealed that Dan Lu was reluctant to hang around the band as he is not a fulltime member of Zembani Band but a contract musician.

“So he did not see the need to adhere to their rules because he is just hired for performances and not a fulltime member,” said the source.

What broke the camel’s back however, were sentiments that the ‘Uhule ndi Mtima’ musician uttered after a performance in Johannesburg at the weekend.

“He was apparently overhead telling a friend that he was being mistreated by Lucius and he was not happy and this made Lucius livid.”

Efforts to talk to both artists proved futile as Lucius’ South African line kept calling while Dan Lu could not be reached as he was reportedly in transit back to Malawi.

Dan Lu and Lucius Banda are long time stage collaborators and the younger musician has played with Zembani Band ever since he broke onto the scene with his hit ‘Shupie’.

He left to form his Rockers Band but has recently returned to Zembani.
