Lunjika secondary school gets 110 desks From Airtel

Airtel Malawi continues to spread its corporate social responsibility far and wide, and on Thursday, the leading mobile telecommunications company donated 110 double seater desks to Lunjika Secondary School in Mzimba.

Territory Sales Manager for Airtel Isaac Chapasuka noted that Lunjika was a historical institution that had contributed highly to the development of education in Malawi.

Chapasuka said the donation of these desks which would cater for 220 students grows the partnership Airtel has with the education sector.

“Airtel fully understands that efforts to promote education standards in the country are not as smooth due to lack of resources among other key things. However, such shortfalls should not undermine the essence of education and what it means to the people of this country,” he said adding that the donation reaffirms Airtel’s recognition that this country’s hope relies on young people and that the youth’s hope relies on education.

Chapasuka then urged students, teachers and people of Lunjika to take good care of the desks so that they stand the test of time.

“And to students, the future is in your hands; therefore, do your best to achieve the best through education. Remember, to take care of these desks so that they serve their purpose long term and benefit future students of Lunjika,” he advised.

Representing the President of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Education Director for Malawi Union Conference Dr Elphes Luwani said the community has been overwhelmed by the donation.

Dr Luwani said the donation of desks was timely and that it would boost inspiration and motivation in students of Lunjika Secondary School and the surrounding communities.

This donation comes a barely a week after Airtel donated 120 double seater desks to one of it’s adopted schools Salima LEA Primary School.
