In another typical old-habits-die-hard situation, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) officials are milking Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA) to fight political opponents through propaganda machinery, Nyasa Times has established.
Macra Director General Godfrey Itaye, a close ally to Minister of Local Government Kondwani Nankhumwa, has been channelling out money from the regulator to The Globe, a propaganda tabloid for DPP officials Nankhumwa, Henry Mussa and Noel Masangwi aimed to fight opposition politicians and smear the country’s Vice President, Saulos Chilima.
Information coming out from MACRA has indicated that apart from monetary support, MACRA has also donated five laptops worthy millions to the Globe publication which have been given to the members of staff.
As if that is not enough, MACRA is also footing rental bills for the tabloid Globe at Area 3, in Lilongwe just opposite Baobab Heath Trust.
MACRA top officials and other staff are said to be divided over this arrangement.
Two teams have emerged, one being lead by Itaye u in support of bankrolling the Globe using money meant for poor Malawians while the other group is being lead by Bisika and they are against what Itaye and Nankhumwa are doing.
All the money and donations going to the Globe under the instructions of Itaye are being done without the approval of the board members.
The Globe has so far made two publications which have sold to over 3,000 readers and a third edition is anticipated this weekend.
In a related development, On 7th November, 2015 using phone number 099956957, Nankhumwa pressured MACRA officials to release 20 million kwacha as donation towards the Lomwe annual event.
The money in question was electronically transffered and cashed on a Saturday at 7:30am at National Bank, Victoria Avenue Branch by Mayeso Edson Chipyoza who happens to be a nephew to Nankhumwa.
Nankhumwa also started another propaganda publication, Eye Witness which folded.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
