Malawi anti-govt protests to go ahead- CSOs

Malawi civil-society groups are determined to go ahead with their planned anti-government peaceful demonstrations on Tuesday January 13, 2015 and have disowned a statement claiming they have been postponed.

Pagonachi Mtambo: We will be in the streets

The demonstrations  spokesman Timothy Pagonachi Mtambo , the executive director of Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR), said there is “propaganda” claiming the demonstrations have been cancelled, saying they are going ahead with streets protests.

“We would like to dismiss the press statement being circulated stating that CSOs have cancelled [Tuesday, January 14] demonstrations. The statement, being circulated, has not been authored and signed by the concerned institutions,” said Pagonachi Mtambo.

“This is cheap propaganda aimed at frustrating our efforts for a better Malawi. Tomorrow’s demonstrations are going on as planned and all details we  circulated today remain intact,” Mtambo told Nyasa Times on Monday evening.

The street protests targets the country’s First Lady Gertrude Mutharika whose Beautify Malawi Trust (BEAM) is being accused of bulldozing its way to get a K5 million grant from the National Aids Commission (NAC).

Other body targeted are the tribal grouping Mulhakho wa Alhomwe whose patron is the country’s President Arthur Peter Mutharika. The grouping is also said to have benefitted from NAC finds.

Apart from BEAM the activists have included deteriorating state of governance and socio-economic living conditions in Malawi as part of their petition to government.

Demo routes

The following are the routes agreed by both CSOs and Malawi Police Service for the demonstrations:

LILONGWE: Kamuzu Central Hospital Roundabout via Lingadzi Roundabout via NAC offices via Parliament then deliver the petition at the Civic Offices.

MZUZU: Katoto via Mzuzu Clock Tower via Mzuzu High Court roundabout and then deliver the petition at Civic offices;

ZOMBA: Community ground via Mponda School then Zomba district assembly to deliver the petition;

KARONGA: Karonga roundabout then direct to Karonga district assembly to deliver the petition;

BLANTYRE: Upper Stadium via High Way and then deliver the petition at the CIVIC Offices.

    today is Jan 13, 2015
    The demos are of no patronage
    The so called cilvil society says with or no patronage they will go ahead and claims the message is gone. Really?

    If I were the organisers I would rush to disaster areas to support people that assited the July 20 demos which was a success to the Malawi Nation,more also to the people of Zomba who for the first time contributed to the woman president, the spokes person of MCP and subsquent change of our flag. Then there was a good reason to demonstrate I supose.

    In my opinion today’s demos is a personal gradge against an individual and not of any national cause, hence very poor patronage. Eeeh ka January kavuta nanga ka allowance tatenga kale ndiye zikalephereka mwina anena kuti ndibweze ka 3 pin kaja.

    The issue here is about false information being spread around by some individuals not the demos. I don’t this such propaganda is needed in this democratic era. Let those people who wish to demonstrate do so without any intimidation and let the message get across. Wherther myopic or whatever, the leadership will trade carefully in its future endeavours.

  42. hypocricy says:

    Hypocrisy
    One of the very dangerous vices is hypocrisy. When it appears in any individual or a group it puts the society to peril and deprives it of every kind of progress.

    The word munaafiq is derived from the root nifaaq. One whose outward and inward is not the same or who is called double-faced is a hypocrite. Here it means a band which acts against logic and reason and which, for their personal interests and transient benefits, goes against the decisive majority to such an extent that if they can, they resort to sabotage. Yet, for fear of the community or lust for current gains, they make a show of friendship and unity or intimacy.

    Hypocrites are not found only in Islam or other religious but they are also seen in political parties. Generally when the working or course of the ruling party endangers the interests of a band and they are unable to oppose the rulers openly they strive to find out people like them and them form a nucleus of central nucleus of hypocrisy.

    Sometimes such people also instigate other aliens to create fissure in the ruling party and through hues and cries prevent it from enacting its programmers.

    In the third stage it is possible that a group is, from the beginning, not on the platform of the faithful but due to lust makes a show of being like it or for securing the safety of its life and property declares itself to be belonging to the rulers group.

    The above-mentioned causes motivate the creation of hypocrite groups in global parties that are based on common thoughts.

    Islam is also not an exception to the aforesaid rule. After the establishment of the Islamic state and party on the basis of Piety and social justice and moral virtues planted in the hearts of the majority of the people, groups like the Tudeh party and the Mujaahideene Khalq and Khalqe Muslaman and stood up or came into being who, outwardly, made a show of respect to the principles and laws of Islam but who were in their hearts, staunch opponents of Islam and who passed the military secrets of the Islamic state to enemies and/or by spreading false rumours treated fear in the hearts of some Muslims and tried for the break up of the Islamic state through their relations with anti-Islamic states.

    So, after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, under the leadership of the great leader, the Naib Imam, Imam Khomeini such groups began their work of hindrances and sabotage and instigated daily strikes in schools and factories and made plots and spread rumours. They had enacted their plans so cleverly in organisations that they were able to inflict terrible blows on the head office of he Islamic Republican Party wherein they killed seventy-two representatives of the nation. Again they conspired in the office of the Prime Minister wherein the popular leader Brother Rajai and the scholar brother Bahonar were martyred. This hypocrisy was so deep-rooted that, had there not been the steadfastness of the Imam and the awakening of the nation, they would have been able to overturn the Islamic state in Iran, in the early days of the Islamic Revolution.

  43. jealous says:

    Jealousy is a disease of the heart. It is, perhaps, one of the oldest problems of human beings. Some Islamic scholars say that this is the first sin that was committed. When Allah said to the angels to bow down to Adam, Iblis refused to bow because he was jealous of the honor that Allah gave to Adam. He said to Allah, “Do You see? This one whom you have honored above me, if You give me respite to the Day of Judgment, I shall surely bring his descendants under my sway, all but a few.” (Al-Isra’ 62)

    He then tempted Adam and his wife (peace and blessings be upon both of them). They repented and Allah forgave them, but then when they came to this earth they had two sons, Abel (Habil) and Cain (Qabil). Cain killed his brother because of jealousy. Referring to this, Allah Almighty says: “But recite unto them with truth the tale of the two sons of Adam, how they offered each a sacrifice, and it was accepted from the one of them and it was not accepted from the other. (The one) said: I will surely kill thee. (The other) answered: Allah accepteth only from those who ward off (evil). Even if thou stretch out thy hand against me to kill me, I shall not stretch out my hand against thee to kill thee, lo! I fear Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.”(Al-Ma’idah 27)

    Jealousy is called hasad in Arabic and in the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) there is ample guidance to save us from jealousy and its harmful effects. Jealousy is that you hate to see anything good in or with another person and you wish to see that person lose that good thing.

    However, if you see something good in or with another person, and you also want the same thing for yourself, without hating the other person or wishing that person to lose that good thing, then this is not called jealousy in Islam.

    Islam allows competition in goodness. Islam allows that people try to excel and do things better, but without getting involved in hatred and jealousy and without wishing bad things for others.

    Whether it is money, power, fame or lust, all material things are finite. It is for this reason people normally get jealous about material things. One should try to pay less attention to material things and more to spiritual things. The spiritual things are infinite and unlimited. There is no fear that if one has something spiritual then the other may not have it, or may have it less. So there is no jealousy in spiritual things. That is why it is said that there will be no jealousy in Paradise.

    Causes of Jealousy

    Imam al-Ghazali, who was a great Muslim ethical thinker, philosopher and scholar, said that jealousy is often caused by:

    1-Enmity: One has animosity for a person or group and does not want to see anything good happen to that person or group.

    2-Ambition: It hurts a person to see someone else ahead or above him/her.

    3-Pride and Arrogance: When a person is self conceited and arrogant, he/she feels very jealous to see anyone else going ahead or doing better.

    4-Astonishment: Some time a person feels astonished that another person could do better than him/her. He/she feels surprised: ‘How come that person became so rich, so successful, so popular, etc.?’

    5-Fear: Fear that if another person would have such and such thing, then he/she may not have it.

    6-Desire for power and prestige: Sometimes a person becomes jealous because he/she want to make oneself great by putting others down.

    7-Evil nature and avarice of the heart: Some people just do not like to see others happy. They want to see the whole world in misery and difficulty except their own selves.

    Normally jealousy occurs among people who know each other. It happens among siblings, among family members, people of the same profession and age. A Muslim must always keep in mind that jealousy is forbidden. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Do not be jealous of each other, do not boycott each other, do not hate each other, do not contrive against each other. Be all of
