The raise by K2, 000 might not be significant but for child headed households, the elderly and people with disability, this will have an impact on their lives because of the rise in the cost of living.

Minister of Gender and Social Services Jean Kalirani said the money has been raised from K4, 500 to K6, 500 a month for 180, 000 households in 18 districts.

“We are happy as government that lives of very poor households have improved for the better because of this money,” she said.

She said over K50 billion has already been disbursed in the last three years and plans are already at advanced stage to reach out to the poor for the same program in the remaining districts.

Germany, Irish Republic, Unicef and World Bank are funding the program which targets the poorest of the poor in a particular area in the 18 districts.

Only Balaka districts pays out the money through a bank, FMB Bank.
