Malawi army helicopter hired to promote Busy Signal gig

Impact Events boss Lucius Banda on Wednesday put Lilongwe on a stand still as for first time in the history of Malawi Music shows, when he used a Malawi Defence Force helicopter to promote Jamaican artist Busy Signal show slated this Saturday at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

Banda together with National Bank of Malawi Marketing Manager Wilkins Mijiga flew around Lilongwe before landing at Gateway Mall where, with some upcoming artists, they performed some songs.

Impact Events has partnered with National Bank of Malawi for the show.

In an interview, Banda who is Impact Events Managing Director said he is happy with the response from Malawi towards the show.

“All preparations have been done. We are happy with the way people are buying the tickets through National Bank’s online system MO626,” said Banda.

As of now, the tickets are only being sold through the online system with the hard tickets expected to be sold at the door.

“We want to avoid duplication of tickets. We learnt a lesson at last year’s Sand Festival whereby despite having a large audience, we were reaped off completely. Now we want to be very careful,” he said.

He said last year’s festival accumulated ticket sales of over 80 percent, but they only benefited from 20 percent of the sales as organisers.

Banda said Busy Signal is expected to jet in on Saturday through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.

Apart from Lucius Banda and Zembani Band, Raiders Band, Lulu and Mathumela Band, Nep Man and Sam Smak are expected to curtain raise the show.

There will also upcoming musicians who will warm up the stage like Blasto, Malinga Mafia, Beank, Tamia and T Kells.

The tickets are being sold through MO626 at K10 000 and on Saturday will K12 000 payable at the door.

Mijiga said National Bank of Malawi (NBM) through its Mo626 electronic payment platform has sealed a partnership he organisers of Busy Signal concert and Sand Music Festival. to curb fraud that marred ticket sales during last year’s event and the bank has since put in $15 000 (about K11.5 million) towards the concert.

He said NBM is devoted to develop the country’s arts and tourism industry.

“As our social corporate responsibility, last year we sponsored the Sand Music Festival to the tune of $10 000 [about K7.6 million], but this year, it has pleased NBM to increase the sponsorship to $15 000 because we are impressed with the way the festival was conducted,” he said.

Mijiga said the Sand Music Festival and the Busy Signal concert are of direct benefit to the growth of Malawi’s entertainment and tourism industries.

Busy Signal  gig on Saturday September 3  at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe is also part of fundraising for the Sand Music Festival taking place from October 28 – 30.

L.Banda is not a great musician, but rather a great OPPORTUNIST ever seen in Malawi. What music does he play to attract international audience like late Luck Dube, late Rwambo Franco of the Congo,Koffi Olomide and many others sleepy Malawians have not seen them.Army Helicopter is not supposed to be used in other spheres than military operations.WHAT DEAD SOULS?
