The second edition of the Malawi Achievers’ Awards, to honour Malawians who have excelled in their respective fields of endeavour, will be hosted by Malawi Association UK (MAUK) at the giant Athena conference hall, Leicester on 28th March, 2015.

Malawi Association UK is an umbrella body of UK based Malawi Associations, a registered charity that promotes welfare and sense of belonging for Malawians living in the United Kingdom. It also extends its welfare policy to help the needy people in Malawi.

The maiden achievers awards held this year managed to raise £1,000 which was donated to Malawi Health Care UK (Mahecas) charity for a cancer project in Malawi.

Organisers of the   red carpet event said nominations for the awards will be open from December 6 and that tickets will start going on sale before year ends.

“The MAUK members recently approved Athena as the venue of the March 28, 2015 Malawi Achievers Awards ceremony. The organisers held their meeting at the venue and are pleased to announce that it is a top notch arena befitting the red carpet event,” MAUK secretary general Stephenson Mbewe said.

Among the guests expected at the next year’s event t will be MAUK working partners, dignitaries, academicians, prominent business men and women   across the UK.

The organisers have already liaised with international and Malawian local musicians, dancers, comedians and other various entertainers.

According to Felix Banda, project director, objectives of the awards are to recognise and reward people who are making a positive difference to the Malawian community in the UK.

The event also aims to show a token of appreciation to people, charities and organisations in UK that are making a positive difference in Malawi.

He said it also aims to bring Malawians and friends of Malawi from all walks of life together to share ideas and knowledge, networking and also to promote Malawian culture especially among the younger generation.

Try to get Good sound system and a well qualified Organiser not like what happened last year people just all over the place and a good DJ to mix up different songs as some of us come with partners who are not Malawians.
