Malawi Awards UK nominations extended to March 7: Tickets on sale

Nominations of the inaugural Malawi Achievers Awards (MAA) dubbed The ‘Malawi Grammy’s’ have been extended for another seven days  – by public demand – to allow people make more nominations,  organisers  have announced.

Malawi Achievers Awards UK whose aim is to celebrate outstanding Malawian individuals and groups in the UK for their exceptional achievements and contributions to their communities both in the UK and in Malawi is a project of Malawi Association UK (MAUK) an umbrella body for all Malawians in the UK. It  will take place at Marriot Hotel, Smith Way, Grove Park, Endeby, Leicester, LE19 1SW, on March 29th 2014.

MAA Project coordinator Felix Banda said the idea to extend the nomination has been tremendously arrived at after it has been noted that many people across the United Kingdom and beyond are still nominating for as many ‘achievers’ in various categories to the forthcoming prestigious ‘Red Carpet’ event.

“The people’s response to this great occasion is so overwhelming. We are receiving more nominations that we ever anticipated. People not only in the UK have responded so well. So many people have asked us to give them more time and so we have decided to grant them their wish. It does not make sense, if we don’t respect people’s wishes as we are doing this for the people,” said Banda who is also an executive member of MAUK.

Banda said the exalted Achievers Awards is a family event that will accommodate children and will start on real time at 6PM and  through to 01:00hours. Thereafter there will be an after-party adding that it will be a day to remember in a lifetime.

But Banda emphasized that tickets to the event are selling like hot cakes and appealed to those wishing to attend to purchase their entry tickets as there will be no tickets sold on the door.

“I would like to appeal to all Malawians, friends of Malawi and all interested to grace the occasion to buy their tickets now because there only few limited spaces left. To avoid last minute disappointments, we argue all those wishing to attend to buy their tickets now or forever regret. This is going to be the most memorable occasion that has ever been for Malawi in history,” said Banda.

According to Banda tickets can be purchased via online on the following link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/malawi-achievers-awards-ceremony-tickets-9992966231

Tickets can also be purchased from the following people: Gertrude Chirambo in London, Martin Guga and Stepson Mbewe (Leicester) Gertrude Banda in (Essex) Boniface Chimpango (Manchester) Thom Twee (Leeds) and Peter Makossah (Nottingham and Derby)

Banda said the night will be fun-filled and will provide excellent entertainment galore with lots of thrilling acts.

Some big Malawian companies are expected to be among the sponsors of the event and there international television networks who have asked to beam the event including a recording to be shown on MBC TV in Malawi, according to Felix Banda.

Said Banda: “We have approached big companies for sponsorship of the event and we hope that more companies will come forward to support us. We also would like to thank the many organisations and companies who have either supported us or have pledged to support us on this auspicious occasion.

“This is the time to show how proud we are as a country. Let us recognise and appreciate our very own great sons and daughters while they are still alive. We don’t have to wait for them to die to appreciate their contributions and services to mankind, their communities and of course to their motherland, Malawi.”
