Malawi Catholics exchange blows in church

Catholics at Likuni Parish in Lilongwe on Sunday put aside Bibles and Jesus crosses to exchange blows over disagreement of a parish priest.

Lilongwe Police Station publicist Kingsly Dandaula confirmed the police rushed to the parish to pacify the place.

He said there were no injuries after the violence.

Reports indicate that some members of the church are not happy with Parish Priest.

They want him out of the parish and presented the matter to Lilongwe Diocese for action.

However before a decision was made, some of the Catholics wanted to remove the priest by force as he was about to lead mass, annoying a section of the Catholics who opposed the move leading to the fracas.

This is the first time in recent history that Catholics have fought in Church after Muslims and Christians of Zambezi Evangelical Church.

The Catholic leadership is yet to comment on the matter.

The fight comes barely a week after the holy week of Easter, when Catholics follow to the latter church rituals to remain holy as they commemorated the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ whom Christians believe is the Son of God.

  2. Do you think Jesus lied when He said a fruit is known by its fruits. This church does not belong to Jesus. Establishment of this church was not authorized by Jesus. Thats why they worship pope and think that they will make it to heaven. Never! you will never reach heaven and Pope is not a vicar of Christ. The bible says in 1 Timothy 2: 5, “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” Pope and Mary are not involved in any way in mediating us to God. Jesus is the only mediator.

When you look closely into the cause of the shameful and unbelievable occurance, you will divulge into no uncertain terms that the cause had some connections with finances of the denomination. The houses of God have these days become the houses of solecisms where The Priests and their bedfellows prey on public funds. You cannot cajole the Supreme being otherwise, your sins will boomerang. The Church leaders must demonstrate civility in order to attract more members into your congregations.AMEN!!!

If you worship in spirit, you wouldn’t want to pummel each other’s body over church disagreements. Catholics are like moslems: they worship in flesh – very good at following church/mosque rituals, but poor in spirit. People have to come to church prayerfully and charged in spirit. Take any disagreement and conflict to God in prayer in the name of Jesus (not in the name of some Maria or Muhammad). If you want to fight the war yourself you’ll fail, even if you think you’re powerful, but let God fight the war for you. Be meek; pretend you’re a child and powerless, and trust in the power of the almighty God, your father, in Jesus name.

YOU SEE YOU OLD CHURCHES YOU ARE AGAINST YOUR FELLOW CHRISTIANS WHO ARE BLESSED AS PROPHETS WHO DO A LOT MORE THAN YOU TRADITIONAL RELIGIOUS . THIS IS WRITTEN IN THE BIBLE BUT YOU ARE AGAINST THEIR EXISTENCE AND PRESENCE IN OUR BELOVED COMMUNITIES. YOU SEE NOW GOD IS ACTING BY EMBARASING YOU .

I got two versions when I went to LL two months ago. The first version was that some church members from Chinsapo, a nearby township to Likuni, were practising satanism through a well known church choir which was desolved by the priest under the attack. The second version was that these satanic people are behind another satanic priest as Likuni has three priest of whom will baptize people into satanism. Another version was that the suspected satanic parish counsel has been desolved by the priest under the attack. The last version was that the priest under attack is being accused of misusing church money and womanising. The most interesting thing is that the woman is a leader of all this . She even grabbed a microphone in presence of Bishop during one session . If one can follow what has been happenning at Likuni parish, it is like a movie.

The church has completely lost it’s meaning and value. It is shame and contrarIan to the teachings of Christ. Do we really need the police or court of law to teach us love and peaceful coexistence? If the church behaves this way, how about the secular world? One of the cornerstone of the church is its meekness and tolerance. Anyway, that’s what happens when people go to church as a tradition and not to reflect on God’s teaching and way of life.

I agree with ‘the analyst’ Christians would not watch a small group of people who wanted to disrupt prayers without any valid reason. Mind you one of the attackers had a knife in his pocket. What was his intention?

Remember what Christ did when some people were merchandising at Church. They were chastised.

. . . We people need to be realistic-faithfuls and stop perceiving all disagreements in a church as strange or wrong.

. . . If you have a gun and by whatever reason (e.g. kulandana bwenzi), someone is charging at you with a clear intention to kill you, are we being honest with ourselves to assume that just because its in a church you will not shoot this person?; but wait kuti mpaka akukhape mbali imodzi kuti umpatsenso mbali inayi?; pokwanilitsa malemba?
. . . Nanga, if some starved-lustful man jumps on some well-given lady with an intent to rape her in the shortest time possible (according to his calculations and njala yake); are we sure that those who happen to see him will not give him a jibe or two, besides rescuing the innocent lady, all because its in a church?
. . . what do we become when we step our foot onto the church premises? Angels? Ha!
    …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Looking at this story, you see an issue of wa mphamvu ndi ine.
. . . Now, human nature has it that if someone challenges you and you are convinced that you are more powerful/able that they are you want to show them otherwise.
. . . Are we sure that the other group) whose priest was being shoveled from left to right) perceived themselves as weaklings? No!
. . . Are we convinced that the best thing the other group could do was close their eyes and say Ameeeeeeeeee praying that their priest be not pushed or harmed? No!
. . . Does not God work through men?; hence a sense of duty and responsibility and the need for them to act?.

Simply put, what the other group did is very commendable, even before God; coz here was a helpless priest being roasted by an angry group and surely they wouldnt just sit back and watch. Othwise they would have failed not just the priest but also their God. Do unto others.
