A 47 year old man identified as Mussa Kachepa will spend the next 10 years behind bars after he was found guilty of being found in possession human bones contrary to Section 16 of the Anatomy Act.
Kachepa was arrested on 10th June together with Muhammed James after one of his wives tipped the police that her husband was keeping the bones believed to be that of an albino.
During the hearing of the case at the Machinga Margistrate Court last Friday, Kachepa admitted he wanted to sell the bones to a Liwonde based woman called Mary Gundo.
Police Prosecutor Machno Lungu asked the court to give Kachepa a stiff punishment so that it serves as a lesson to other would be offenders.
In passing her judgement, Senior Resident Margistrate Agness Patemba conquered with Lungu that Kachepa deserved a stiff punishment.
She therefore slapped him with a 10 year Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL) sentencing.
In mitigation, Kachepa pleaded with the court to give him a lenient sentence because he looks after two wives who are at the meantime pregnant as well as his 10 children.
Gundo and Mohammed are expected to be sentenced this week.
