Malawi FA to hold extraordinary polls over vacant post

Football Association of Malawi  (FAM) will hold extraordinary elections on 14 January next year during Annual General Meeting scheduled for Lilongwe.

The extraordinary elections will be done to fill the position of executive member which fell vacant after Alfred Gunda assumed the position of General Secretary replacing Sugzo Nyirenda.

FAM stated that the elections would be held in line Article 35 of the Constitution.

The association has since notified the body’s electoral body, affiliates, Malawi Electoral Commission who will conduct the polls.

The association has since called upon individuals interested to run to submit their nominations before 16 December.

Gunda, who was the executive member assumed the higher office of the secretariat after Nyirenda secured a job at Confederation of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) as Deputy Chief Executive Officer.

He has since left to get down to business at Cosafa headquarters in Botswana.

The extraordinary elections will be held barely one year after the the associations elected a new committee which ushered President Walter Nyamilandu to a fourth consecutive four-year tenure of office.
