Malawi Fashion Week (MFW) chief executive officer Dawa Loga-Lemberger has been invited to attend this year’s Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) scheduled to take place from August 1 to 3.
Loga- Lemberger has been invited alongside Minister of Tourism and Culture Rachel Mazombwe Zulu, according to a letter from AFWL.
The letter states that Loga-Lemberger will be awarded for being a Malawian fashion icon and introducing Malawi Fashion Week while the minister will be awarded for supporting the initiative.
“The aim of this event is to showcase the best of African arts and fashion to the most influential people globally, including First Ladies, ambassadors, Members of Parliament, celebrities and VIPs. We would also be recognising those who have contributed to the growth of African fashion, youth empowerment and empowerment of women in Africa and we are pleased to announce that you have emerged winner of the African Achievers Awards,” reads the letter sent to Mazombwe Zulu.
Loga-Lemberger said she was “delighted” to be recognisedby AFWL , saying the Malawi Fashion Week will be an annual event.
She said Malawi Fashion Week is there to promote and help market the talented designers, noting that local designers are not on the same level as they were before.
The maiden Malawi Fashion Week did not only bring the exposure for the local designers but also created marketing opportunities for their products, according to Loga-Lemberger.
Loga-Lemberger’s first ever concept of Malawi Fashion Week was run in partnership with African Dzuwa owned by Chikumbutso Mtumodzi.
