Malawi First Lady apologises to US second lady over Zomba fracas: Chanco students given bail
First Lady Gertrude Mutharika has apologised to the US second First Lady Dr Jill Biden for her failure to visit US funded projects in Machinga and Zomba because of protesting Chancellor College students in Zomba.
The students blocked the road to Machinga with burning tyres and branches of trees.
Mutharika said the government and the people of Malawi apologises to Biden for her failure to fullfill her engagements in Machinga on Tuesday.
Biden, US ambassador to Malawi Virginia Palmer and Education minister Emmanuel Fabiano took refuge at the dilapidted Eastern region police headquarters in Zomba after the students run amok damaging vehicles.
However Biden emerged from the police offices after 40 minutes with a broad smile on her face.
Meanwhile, the Zomba magistrates court in Zomba has released on bail 12 of the 23 arrested stidents over the violent students on bail.
They were told to pay K10000 bail bond, report to nearest police and they should not get involved in any protests before the end of their case.
However the Chancellor College student union leadership remain in police custody.

Apologise on behalf of your incompetent husband and the stinking DPP not us Malawians. We really don’t care for people like that. We are too busy thinking about the next meal to be embarrassed by incident like that.
