Malawi flag carrier Tionge Munthali for Miss Heritage Global in South Africa
Rising model and Miss Heritage Malawi, Tionge Munthali, on Monday left for South Africa ahead of the Miss Heritage Global pageant to be held in Gallagar, Midland this week.
The contest has attracted 60 contestants from around the world, and is an international beauty contest that seeks to promote world heritage.
Munthali was recently denounced by a committee currently claiming to be running the affairs of Miss Heritage Malawi franchise in the country led by controversial Maynard Chizavare.
The Chizavare team replaced Munthali with Madalo Nkuwu devoid of any substantive grounds. A reigning Miss Heritage can only be stripped of her position if she falls pregnant or engages in immoral acts, none of which applied to Munthali.
In an interview with Nyasa Times before she flew out, Munthali said she was positive she will represent the country well.
The queen, who won the title after beating 13 other contestants last November, will face her kindred from countries including Nigeria, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Egypt, Australia, India, USA and Ireland.
She said she will be camping in South Africa ahead of the event slated for Saturday, February 18.
“I’m challenged to compete with friends from different countries. I know it is going to be tough but I will try my best to bring the good news that Malawians are expecting from me. I trust in God,” said a confident Munthali in a phone interview.
The beauty queen said said she was happy to be the country’s representative at such a prestigious pageant.
