Malawi Flames climb two spots in latest FIFA rankings

Malawi national football team, the Flames, climbed two places in the latest FIFA monthly rankings released by world football’s governing body on Thursday which is a big motivation a head of their World Cup qualifiers against Namibia.

The Flames, who are expected to leave for Botswana on Sunday to play the Zebras in a friendly match before connecting to Namibia for the World Cup first leg on March 23, 2013 have moved from 113 position in the World to 111 now.

In Africa, the Flames are now on 30th position.

However, the Flames latest Fifa ranking will be a big motivation to the squad as their opponents Namibia are still behind them on number 121 in the World.

Meanwhile, there were no changes in the top six of the World ranking,as reigning world champions Spain remained unshaken as they maintained their top slot with Germany, Argentina, England and Italy following suit.

In Africa, Ivory Coast remains the number one team

But AFCON winners Nigeria   shot up 22 places to 30th, while the tournament’s runners-up Burkina Faso went from 92nd to 55th.
