Malawi football farewell to Dave Mpesi

Malawi football fraternity on Friday paid tribute to coach Dave Mpesi at a requiem mass held at the Catholic Institute Parish in Blantyre before his body was taken to his home village at T/A Kapeni in Lunzu, Blantyre for burial.

Mpesi. who died on Wednesday at Mzuzu Central Hospital where he was referred to following a car accident in Rumphi, was described as an outstanding  sportsman.

Catholic priest who conducted the requiem mass noted that “ a light has gone out” in Malawi football.

His remains will be interred on  Saturday, February 2, 2013 in Lunzu.

He  coached teams such as Blue Eagles, Civo United, Silver Strikers, Bata Bullets and Mighty Wanderers and was until his death a coach for Chikhwawa United.

Mpesi, a father of six, 57 came from Mazale Village, T/A Kapeni, Blantyre.
