Malawi Golden Boot chase: Wadabwa closes in on Mbulu

The battle for the prestigious golden boot award continues  as Mighty Be Forward Wanderers striker Peter Wadabwa closed in the gap with the leading scorer Richard Mbulu on Sunday.

Mbulu scored a brace on Sunday to inspire his side to a 2-0 victory over Azam Tigers at the Kamuzu Stadium.

On the other hand, Mbulu was not in action as his side only managed to collect three points without even kick off the ball at Chitowe after relegation bound who announced they have quit the league last week failed to show up.

Wadabwa has now brought his tally of goals just three behind Mbulu.

Mbulu, who at the beginning of the season set a target of 18 goals, told Nyasa Times last week that he will surpus his on target.

Mafco who are on top of the log table are remaining with seven goals before they wind up the season while Wanderers are remaining with six games  and obviously, the golden boot award remain at stake as more goals are yet to come.

Chiukepo Msoowoya of Nyasa Big Bullets whose form has lately gone down obviously due to an injury he suffered recently come third on the top scorers chart with 12 goals, Manase Chiyesa of Kamuzu Barracks on fourth with 10 goals while Bright Munthali of Azam Tigers and Lughindiko Mushani of Karonga United share the fifth position with 10 goals apiece.

Maxwell Salambula  is on sixth with nine goals while the triple of Kuda Miyawa-Moyale Barracks, Anthony Banda-Epac and Gilbers Chirwa have eight goals each.

The inredible goal scoring competition reaches a critical stage this coming weekend as TNM Super League actuon returns to action.

The winner of this years golden boot award will take home a miniature and a K200,000.00 cash prize.

By the end of Week 26, a total of 431 goals have been scored with seven hat tricks from Chiukepo Msowoya-Big Bullets, Gilbert Chirwa (2)-Blue Eagles, Peter Wadabwa-Be Forward Wanderers, Antony Banda-Epac, Gustin Simkonda-Moyale Barracks and Khumbo Msowoya-Karonga United.

Bright Munthali remain the only player to have banged in the highet number of goals-five in a single game.

Nyasa Big Bullets the defending champions, Kamuzu Barracks, Mafco and Blue Eagles are the only teams yet to lose a match at home.

Steve Chagoma of Blue Eagles and Steve Msiska of Karonga United are the only players to have scored in their own net.

A total of 431 cards have been flashed by the men in black-27 reds and 407 yellows.

Mzuni FC have received more cards than any other club 42 while Red Lions and Epac have received 36 each.
