Malawi gospel hit enjoying airplay in southern Africa: Chrissy & DJ Zimbabwe’s ‘Mwayenera’

A duet by songstress Chrissy Kamthunzi and Precious Kainga, Mwayenera, is making history for Malawi music with it enjoying massive airplay in the Southern Africa region including such countries as Kenya, Botswana and South Africa.

Precious Kainga, popularly known as ‘DJ Zimbabwe wa ku Malawi’ said they decided to come up with the duet to reach out to a wider audience.

“We both have a following as artists. By collaborating, it means we will reach out to a double audience with a single hit,” said Kainga.

He said as gospel song birds they believe in the power of unity.

Mwayenera, recorded at Presha C Studios in the commercial capital Blantyre with assistance from Yung and Sam Banda, exalts the goodness of God.

“People should expect more touching songs from us. Songs that will keep them close to God,” said Kainga.

Apart from music, Kainga is also a well-known comedian in the country and plies that trade with the name Wayisoni.

Kamthunzi is a veteran gospel star with a number of albums to her credit.
